Discover the Similkameen

The next great wine region

The Similkameen Valley is a pristine stretch of vineyards, orchards and farmland, set amongst the dramatic backdrop of rugged mountains. The valley has been recognized as one of BC’s best wine growing regions. Steep, rugged, rocky cliffs tightly enclose the valley. Plunging fans of rock erode from the mountains to the vineyards and orchards on the valley floor below providing a clear window into how this special terrain was formed.

Similkameen wines have characteristics and flavours that are only found in the valley. It’s that special combination of altitude, sunshine, moisture, wind, and our unique soil that combine to create the perfect conditions.

With dramatic a day-to-night temperature swing, distinct micro-climates, diverse soil and a long growing season, the Similkameen is perfect for producing premium wines. The near-desert environment in the Similkameen Valley provides fantastic growing conditions for grapes. It’s not uncommon for temperatures to rise above 40°C on summer days. Due to the high mountains on both sides of the valley, and the reflective rocks, the heat is held in the valley long after the sun sets.

The intense heat and long hours of sunlight mean that vines work hard and long, ripening grapes perfectly. The extreme temperatures from day to night give both ripeness of fruit while retaining natural acidity to keep wines fresh and vibrant.

The Similkameen Valley is alluring because of its beauty, the authenticity, and a lifestyle of locally grown food and wine. Daniel and Kristine are very proud to call this magical place home.
